Michael KreitzerSuggest altering the topic to change the term "URLs" to "domain names" to more accurately reflect the request. As part of implementing domain name support, please include SRV record support so that we do not need to communicate custom port numbers to users.
Ideally I'd simply give users an easy to remember name such as "vrising.example.com", and through the magic of DNS and SRV records, it would all "just work". -

VitaefinisYes, Michael put it very nicely.
I use SRV records for hosting my Minecraft server as well, like mc.example.com and it works like a charm. -

RJ Martin MergedBRANCH: None
REPORT:
What happens? Please give as many details as possible: When direct connecting to private server, currently domain names aren't available to be used. EX. instead of being able to put vamp.domain.tld:Port, it has to be xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:Port, the connect button is greyed out with a domain name in there instead of IP.
Have you modified your game files or installed any mods? No
Can the devs reproduce the issue? Connecting through direct connect

Maxemwould be very nice to fix this. in my opinion its not a big deal to change this. My server is normaly reachable by a dyn.dns-adress, so friends need not to remember a ip-adress. TY

REPORT:
Direct Connect requires IP address and will not allow a dns name. This prevents the use of dynamic dns services for folk who don't get a static IP address with their internet, which is most. It also allows those that do to give out undead-friendly domain names instead of blocks of numbers that are hard to remember (I don't think Dracula ever had to pass a CCNA exam).
I don't use Discord, but will check for comments.
I searched for a picture of a cute puppy to upload with this, added 'dns' on a whim, and this came up: -

Arg Matros MergedBRANCH: I'd assume live/latest release.
REPORT:
Steps to recreate:
* Buy awesome domain
* Host dedicated server
* Set DNS to server IP
* Start game, click "direct connect"
* Attempt to enter domain name
** Note that only dots and numbers are allowed.
* cry, then enter IP instead of the awesome domain.
This could be an issue if the server address changes often (which is usually resolved with Dynamic DNS).

SvekIt's also important to note that large scale systems may do maintenance on the infrastructure from time-to-time, that may impact IP addresses or entire subnets to shift. This feature will make it easier for people to not have to announce these changes, as the FQDN is exactly for this purpose.

David CadyI just want to add my vote and comment to this. My ISP changes my IP on an almost daily basis, so I have a DNS set up to communicate with my PC. This allows me to remote into my own PC when I'm away and make sure any game servers I happen to be running remain so, and resolve issues when they have them. It also allows for my friends to join my servers for various games without needing me to tell them my ever-changing IP. V Rising is the first game I've run into where I cannot use my DNS to have them join.
