Adam's Soul shard did not drop

Me and a friend just killed Adam the firstborn, and did not receive the soulshard.? My friend looked to have on my screen picked up a] sochard but when we returned home he didn't have an in his inventory and on the map it says it's still there I went to check but there's nothing but an empty space where the boss would be so I am very confused.
