Dominate Form Dropped While Human was Under My Character's Control

I was transferring a 100% Scholar blood Devoted to a new castle, as part of this I was riding my horse. When I reached my destination to send him off using a dusk caller the area was not fully clear of enemies and I dismounted. At some point during this or the ride over my dominate form dropped and I was no longer able to teleport the Devoted via dusk caller. I led the Devoted to my castle and was able to imprison him after which I was also able to re-dominate him.
