Missing Player Profile

When I log in I am no longer at the menu to continue my game. It has me starting a new character right from the confirm brightness setting.
Was doing nothing prior, I had actually played earlier that day with no issue.
No, did not follow an update or event.
Yes I have mods, but my autosaves are still there and intact, this is just the player profile.
I have read a lot of discussions and guides online but nothing seems to address this. Now that my player profile has been overwritten by it wanting me to create a new one, how to I restore my original one. Can I extract it from the autosaves?
I have verified files but again, this is a missing/overwritten player profile so that did nothing.
