Issue with Autosave Lag and Rubberbanding — Possible Solution
When the Gloomrot update was released, there was an issue where players on servers (especially hosts with 4 or fewer CPU cores) experienced rubberbanding, teleporting back in time, and connection lag during background autosaves. The cause was heavy CPU and disk usage during save file compression (CompressSaveFiles: true). Disabling compression and increasing AutoSaveInterval helped fix it back then.
Now, after the latest update, the same issue seems to be back. Players again experience lag and teleportation during autosaves.
Temporary solution:
In your server folder (%appdata%\..\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising\CloudSaves), open ServerHostSettings.json. After "MaxConnectedUsers", insert:
"AutoSaveInterval": 120,
"CompressSaveFiles": false,
Make sure to maintain valid JSON formatting.
Disabling compression slightly increases save size but resolves the autosave lag issue.
Please consider looking into this again — it heavily affects multiplayer gameplay.

Just as an update, the additional step of reducing threads to 1 did nothing to reduce the amount of rubber bands.
Logs have been sent in along with some additional investigative data that I thought might be helpful.
...and back to waiting a bit more for the next chapter in troubleshooting. ;) -

StephanI am running a dedicated server in my pc. i just downloaded the new update Oakveil. I configured the json files with the following:
"Secure": true,
"ListOnSteam": true,
"ListOnEOS": true,
"AutoSaveCount": 20,
"AutoSaveInterval": 400,
"CompressSaveFiles": false,
And i still have a huge lag when i start fighting with npc.
My PC is pretty good. I have 32 Gb of Ram with a 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz and an Nvidia RTX 3070. Running windows 11. When i play the game i still have 50% of the pc resources free so i think it's not a pc problem.
It's true that after adding this configuration, i have less lag when moving of grinding but when i start a fight, the lag is so huge that the game is totally unplayable. Any other solution? -

AlanSame issue when playing in Lan on a selfhosted dedicated server. Hope they fix that soon. The game is unplayable.

StephanAfter hours of testing, I finally found the solution. The lag is completely gone. These are the settings I use in the ServerHostSettings.json :
"ServerFps": 60,
"Secure": true,
"ListOnSteam": false,
"ListOnEOS": false,
"AutoSaveCount": 10,
"AutoSaveInterval": 400,
Now the trick is to open the game, search for an online match, and connect to the server manually using your local IP address and port. For example, 192.168.0.2:9876 -

kiyora MergedIt shows 60 ms when joining the server, but in-game my character keeps stuttering while hitting and walking — basically, every action causes it to stutter.

JanI can confirm the lagging. Server has an average cpu load of 30-40% and ram usage of 4 gig with 10 gig free.
I will try the workaround at the next restart. -

EsoTilinGuasap MergedI created a private world to play with my 3 friends, one from my country and the other one from another country, whenever we're playing, we get random lag spikes or the "disconnection issues" that pops up in the mini map.
- Getting random lag spikes, stuttering, disconnection issues
- Nothing, it happens ever since I created the private world
- It started when I created that world which was just after the Invaders of Oakveil update launched, whenever I get in a legacy world I have with the same friend which is from the previous version before the current one, it runs smoothly, there's no connection issues or nothing related to what I have mentioned
- Game files are intact; I do not use mods and neither do my friends
🔧 Troubleshooting Steps you have already tried, such as:
- I haven't tried anything, I do not know what I should do -

Ingame name: Schwammi815. You can check it out yourself and stand near my castle. Maybe its just me.
Rejoining and joining fixed the lag.

Filippa AdminHello.
In order to investigate this issue further we need some more information.
Please send the following files to logs@playvrising.com :
-The Player-server.log file and the Player-server-prev.log file from the session where the issue happened
(located here: %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising)
Thank you for helping us track down the cause of this issue! -

JanOn my Dedciated Server the lagging has spiked massive after Hotfix 5. Hotfix 4 worked quite well. Even the workaround doesn't help anymore.
The VRisingServer.log shows nothing different. -

RarodI confirm the issue, it started with hotfix 5 + overall performance of the game somehow degraded with the same patch. When playing on local server I have mircolags when opening a container and noticeable lags/teleports back in time during fights.
At the same time when playing on dedicated servers the game works fine. -

MaleventoThe G Portal server I am on, the rubberbanding and lag spikes are a constant. The admin has tried all of the above fixes to no avail. Has talked to support, and they have made adjustments with no change. It is extremely frustrating to play for any length of time. This server was up for the entire 1.0 version with no issues.
-

BluI can confirm Malevento's statement as I'm the admin of that server. I've done everything I know to try. For data sake did a 30-minute test, server had 38 events; 31 noticeable rubber banding and 7 "Connection Issues" appearing in game window along with big lag spike and/or rubber banding.
Shortest times between rubber band events as as low as 5-seconds with longest time between just under 2-min
Average time between all events was an event every 48 seconds.
Shortest time between the "Connection Issues" events was 52-seconds with the longest at 6:45 - average time between connection lags was a little over 3-min.
I currently have the game save timer at 10-min & compression off. As one can see, these times don't seem to have any correlation to the 10-min save game timer. Have tested the server at 2, 5,& 10-min with compression both on and off, no noticeable change.
I am at wits end and G Portal probably tired of talking with me. Would love an official word or better yet a fix. -

Filippa AdminHello. We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing connection issues. We've just updated our guide on common issues with a couple of workarounds for connection issues here: https://guides.playvrising.com/hc/en-us/articles/26890019038749-Known-Issues-V-Rising-1-1
I can see that you've already tried turning off save file compression, but we've had reports that modifying the number of JobThreads as described in the guide can be very efficient as well. Modifying the number of JobThreads can be done individually on every client, not just as the server host.
Please try the suggested workarounds listed in the guide. If the issue persists, please email the following files to logs@playvrising.com :
-The Player-server.log file, located in the rented server's files
-The Player.log file
(located here on your local PC: %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising)
Thank you for helping us track down the cause of this issue. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions! -

HorsificusMy CPU is Ryzen 5950X, upon launching the game and checking in console by typing `JobThreads`, it says "Current JobThreads: 31" - which seems very high compared to the assumed default of 4.
This issue seems to be more client rather than server-sided, looking at my server resource graphs when rubberbanding occurs, the client seems to stop sending any data to the server when it is happening. -

BluAt this point, I am losing players from my server that are exasperated at this lag. I've moved to new hardware AGAIN; G Portal is likely sick to death of dealing with me. This seems to help for a short period then as more players log in over time it just gets worse until it's back up to rubber banding and/or "connection issues" popping up again on average of every 45 seconds.
Most recent: I got with a friend who also has a 30-slot V Rising server, he wiped his data and we moved a full copy of my server to his. We both enabled "ToggleDebugViewCategory All" and watched, he on his server (1 online) & me on mine (2 online). All the debug stats were within reasonably close amounts except my server would randomly shoot up Sms numbers to 900-1500 (rubber band) and 1500+ (connection pop-up) & with some of the longer Sms lags, occasionally Server FPS drops down to single digits.
Please tell me what other information you could need. I've followed the FAQ and also submitted the logs I can. -

steveUsing a dedicated server: AMD 7600, ddr5 32gb with nothing else running on that server. I had been playing for about 8 hours with only a very few minor points of elastic banding, maybe 3-4 at most in all that time. A mate joined the server and the pull back just went nuts. We tried a relog without much success.

steveupdate on the issues I was having. We both turned off the in game auto join voice server. This seems to have stopped all the rubber banding altogether.

BenJust adding to what others have said. I'm hosting on my home dedicated server (Epyc 7302P, 128GB DDR4, raid1 pcie4 nvme) using Pterodactyl, for myself and 4 friends in west/central Europe.
When the save happens, everyone rubberbands and there's a dip in CPU and network usage. I've tried all the fixes above, nothing helped. -

CookieI am also experiencing rubber-banding and lag. It happens often in combat, but also happens just wandering around. I just now edited my files to see if that helps and will send the logs I have. This rubber-banding didn't happen before the Oakveil update. I never had a lag issue before. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

MIke vonI have experienced issues with rubber-banding and lag when connecting to my wife's PC via Steam IP, while she reports no lag. The problem occurs intermittently and was finally resolved through troubleshooting.
Both my wife and I are in the same house, connected wirelessly to the same Nighthawk router, and are in the same room as the router. I attempted all standard fixes without success, similar to many other users.
As a last resort, I conducted speed tests on both of our PCs. Despite both connecting to the same router wirelessly, I observed my download speed at approximately 600 Mbps and upload at 250 Mbps, whereas my wife’s PC, which hosts the game, was testing at around 250 Mbps download and 120 Mbps upload.
To troubleshoot further, I connected my wife’s PC directly to the router via Ethernet and reran the speed test. Her connection then showed speeds of approximately 600 Mbps both download and upload. After restarting the devices, the lagging and rubber-banding issues were re -

iMaximusRexI am having issues with lag/rubberbanding on my privately hosted server. I have a second PC that I used to host 1.0 for myself and some friends, and after 1.1 came out I updated and brought it back and the first couple of weeks it was fine, but the past few weeks has a lot of rubberbanding. I made the changes as sugfgested in the support article https://guides.playvrising.com/hc/en-us/articles/26890019038749-Known-Issues-V-Rising-1-1. I also tried to find the logs files asked for above, but can only find the "player.log" file in the location indicated.
